About me

Shreya Kallingal

Shreya (“Shray-uh”) / ஸ்ரேயா / श्रेया / ശ്രേയ Pronouns: she/her

I am an SRA-regulated freelance solicitor and a trainee mediator in England and Wales. I am also an Advocate regulated by the Bar Council of India. With six years of post-qualification experience between Legal 500 firms in the UK and boutique legal practices in India, I offer comprehensive and culturally sensitive family law advice across both jurisdictions. I advise on divorce, pre-nuptial agreements, domestic abuse, financial remedies, and child-related matters.

Why work with me

As a sole practitioner, I personally handle all my clients’ cases. My approach is clear, candid and collaborative; I firmly believe in minimizing conflict where possible, while robustly protecting my clients’ interests when litigation is necessary.

I choose to work with a limited number of clients at a time, and I operate without the pressures of high-volume work or billing targets often found in traditional law firms in the UK. This structure allows me to provide a highly personalized service and focus entirely on what matters most to my clients—practical outcomes, clear advice, and cost-effective solutions.

Cross-border expertise

I work with families across the UK and internationally, with particular sensitivity to the cultural nuances of divorces in the South Asian diaspora. I bring unique expertise in cross-border family law cases involving the UK and India, and I offer specialist advice on jurisdictional issues, enforceability of orders, and the complexities around marriage and divorce under the various religious laws in India, including Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Islamic, and interfaith marriages. As a consultant at Sreejaya Kallingals & Associates, I can also support you with Family Court litigation across India.

I participate in discussions on family law practice through professional and community forums, and am a trusted professional for the Asian Single Parents’ Network. You can hear my thoughts on family law practice in the UK and India on this podcast for the Devon Chamber of Commerce.

My artistic practice

Alongside my work as a family lawyer, I am a dance artist and educator. Bharatanatyam (Indian classical dance) has been a central part of my life, offering creative expression, connection, and discipline. Family law involves navigating identity, relationships, and transitions—themes that are also fundamental to artistic practice. My legal and creative practices exist side by side, reflecting a commitment to people-centric, balanced work. You can learn more about my dance practice on my dance website.
